The pattern shows a flying eagle (bottom view) when its wings are maximally pointing forwards, i.e., when it is about to make a downward stroke with its wings. The design is mostly symmetrical (the wings, tail and body of the eagle), only the eagle's head disturbs its total symmetry. The design itself has been created in Inkscape free vector software by importing the repeating pattern from the old book mentioned above, drawing one half of the pattern (wing, half of the body and tail) without the head, and forming the complete eagle design by mirror copying and additional drawing of the eagle's head. We have painted the design the same way as it was painted originally.
