Lattice patterns have a large number of blank surfaces that are ideal for inserting ornaments. In this way, it is possible to obtain seemingly very complex but also beautiful patterns, and Byzantine and especially Arab artists used this type of pattern very often.
If you make negatives of the lattice pattern, i.e., paint the white fields and narrow the thick painted lines, you will get patterns once used by the Arabs to make mosaics and tiles. If you visit page Moorish glazed earthenware tile patterns, you will see two tile patterns.
If you like these two lattice patterns, feel free to use them. They are centuries-old and, as you can see, their design can still fit into different projects today.
