This is a very simple pattern of a Phoenix bird based on an illustration from the old book 'Traditional methods of pattern designing; an introduction to the study of the decorative art' (published 1910).
The legendary red ‘fire bird’, the Phoenix, is associated with the cult of the sun and represents the symbol of mystical rebirth, renewal in general, resurrection and immortality. According to Greek mythology, when the Phoenix felt its death approaching at the end of its life-cycle, it would build a nest and set it on fire. It was believed to die in its self-made flames periodically. When it was burned, a new phoenix sprang forth from the ashes.
