If you like working with sheet materials and have a small child, then this children's collapsible rocking chair is the right woodworking project for you!
It consists of only 5 parts that can be made from plywood or MDF. We have chosen the material thickness to be 12 mm, but if you have the knowledge and experience, you may modify it a bit. The chair folds and unfolds in no time and is therefore very convenient for anyone with a lack of space in the house. To make the back and seat parts more comfortable, you can upholster them, but also sew or buy adequate pillows.

If you take a look at the chair parts, there are very large empty surfaces on them that can be decorated with scroll saw technique or simply painted with some children's motifs. This will make the chair more attractive to the child it is meant for. In addition, we have also made an oval-shaped hole in the Side parts, of course, but if you have better ideas, you can very easily change it into a more attractive shape.
The parts are interconnected by means of intersecting joints, and if you do not have a laser cutter or CNC router, you will have to cut everything precisely by hand so that the folded chair is as compact as possible in the end. If your child ends up loving the chair over time, and there is no need to unfold it often, you can also keep it folded permanently. This can be done quite easily with glue and fasteners, and if you want, you can redesign the parts to use some other woodworking joints. Children love rocking chairs, so this model of ours can easily become your child's favorite chair if you make and decorate it in a quality way.
