In order to help all those who need to make a new handle or replace a poor quality handle on their saw, on this page we offer you 32 templates for various types of saw handles.
All of the templates have been made according to various saws that were produced in the late 19th and early 20th century. Those are all saw handles proven in practice and produced by quality companies of that time such as: George Bishop & Sons, Wheeler Madden and Clemson, Spear and Jackson, Disston Saw Works, Sorby, Hearnshaw brothers, Joseph Tyzack & son, etc.
The saw handle templates that you can download here can be divided into open saw handle templates and closed saw handle templates, and as for the type of saw, within the file you can find: panel saw templates, back saw templates, Sash/tenon saw templates, Carcass/Tenon saw templates, crosscut saw templates, Rip saw templates, Dovetail saw templates, etc.
A saw handle must be of ergonomic shape and in a size to fit the woodworker's hand. The saw handle can be made of different wood types such as: beech, Applewood, Maple, rosewood, bubinga...
The handle should be 7/8“ thick. If you have long fingers or big hands, make it at least 1“ thicker.
There is a large number of woodworking sites on the Internet that have high-quality articles on how to make a saw handle. For this reason, we have not dealt with the topic of making handles on our page – we simply offer you saw handle templates that you can use. All the downloadable saw handle templates have been created in a 2D CAD software, in such a way that we have imported pictures of handles into the program, scaled them to actual size and drawn the outline of the handle.
For those who are dealing with vector graphics, svg and eps file formats have been made available, and for those working with CAD programs, the templates are downloadable in dwg and dxf file format.
Several templates contain outer contours as well as lines that can be used for ergonomic shaping of the handles. The principle of ergonomic shaping is similar for all the handles, so any of those drawings may be used for the shaping of the handle whose template shows only the outside contour.
