This is a plan for a very nice box the parts of which are made by scroll saw technique. Interesting project for your laser cutter.
It has been taken from a more than 100-year-old Russian book which contains a large collection of scroll saw patterns with which various house items can be created.
The box dimensions in our plan are: width 302mm (11 7/8 in), Height 115,5mm (4 ½ in), depth 211mm (8 5/16 in).
In the picture above you can see how the finished scroll saw box looks like. The box size can can be easily customized depending on its purpose. The patterns on all its parts are nature-inspired. Inside the central ellipse there are animal motifs and the patterns outside the ellipse consist of leaf forms. All the box parts are made by scroll saw technique, by either hand (with coping saw or fretsaw) or machine (with scroll saw machine or CNC laser cutter). It does not have to be a problem if you do not use the scroll saw technique, as today there is a large number of companies that can service-cut the parts using a CNC laser cutter. It should be enough only to scale the box parts to the desired sizes in 2D CAD or vector program and then submit them for further processing to such a company. When you get the cut parts, all you need to do is assemble the box. The parts are glued together and connected by tab and slot joints.
The scroll saw box in this plan consists of the following parts: bottom, lid, front, back, side 1, side 2, wood screws and hinges. The front and back parts are exactly the same, only their patterns inside the central ellipse are different. The Side 1 and Side 2 parts are exactly the same, only their patterns inside the central ellipse are different. The outer contour on the lid and the bottom is the same.
To create this box, use wood 6mm thick. Either plywood (oak, birch, walnut cherry...) or solid stock (oak, walnur, cherry, mahogany, birch, maple, pine, poplar...) can be used for this scroll saw box.
